FARNHAM and Bordon MP, Gregory Stafford, has today launched a petition calling on TG Jones and the Post Office to guarantee the future of Farnham’s town-centre Post Office.
The future of the branch - located inside the TG Jones store on The Borough - remains uncertain during the national restructuring of the former WH Smith high-street chain. While no formal closure has been announced for the Farnham store, the wider plan - approved by the High Court last month - allows for the potential loss of up to 150 TG Jones outlets, many of which host Post Office counters. Local residents and businesses are rightly concerned that Farnham could be next.
Gregory stressed that the Post Office provides a wide range of essential everyday services that people in Farnham depend on. These include sending and collecting parcels and mail, passport applications and Check & Send, vehicle tax renewals, identity verification, and bill payments. Losing the town-centre counter would create real inconvenience for residents of all ages and risk weakening the high street further.
“This is a clear message to both TG Jones and the Post Office: our community needs certainty, and we need it now. Residents deserve to know that this important service will remain available in the town centre.”
By signing the the petition, residents will join Gregory in urging TG Jones and the Post Office to work together to secure the future of the Farnham counter. He will deliver the signatures to both organisations and continue pressing for a firm commitment that Farnham’s Post Office will be protected.
