Farnham and Bordon MP presses Council for fairer Farnborough Airport consultation

Letter to Rushmoor Borough Council

Gregory has written to Rushmoor Borough Council urging it to ensure that the forthcoming public consultation on Farnborough Airport’s proposed expansion is fair, inclusive, and accessible to all residents.

The consultation is currently scheduled to begin in August - a time when many families are expected to be away due to the summer holidays. Gregory, who represents communities including Haslemere, Liphook, and surrounding villages, said he had heard widespread concerns from residents, particularly about the timing and potential lack of engagement opportunities.

Gregory said:

“Given the scale of local concern around noise, emissions, and environmental impact, it’s vital that every resident has a genuine chance to have their say.

Holding a consultation during the peak holiday period risks excluding many voices.”

He raised the issue in Parliament last month, asking the Minister for Aviation what steps could be taken to improve public participation. In response, the Minister confirmed that the consultation process is entirely the responsibility of Rushmoor Borough Council as the local planning authority.

In a letter jointly addressed to Rushmoor's Interim Managing Director and Executive Director, Gregory called for the consultation to be extended and properly publicised, using a combination of in-person events, online materials, and written communication.

He added:

“This is a matter of transparency and democratic accountability.

I’m urging the Council to take proactive steps to ensure the process is robust, representative, and responsive to the communities most affected.”

Gregory has asked the Council to confirm whether it will reconsider the consultation’s timing and take additional measures to promote wider participation.
