55th Weekly Newsletter
It isn’t often I describe a week as unequivocally successful, but this one genuinely has been. The Remembrance events across our towns were profoundly moving, and my first Health Fair offered a welcome chance to speak with so many of you. I am deeply grateful to everyone who took part in, supported or helped organise these important moments in our community. As for No. 10… well, clarity seems to be in shorter supply there than anywhere in Farnham, Bordon, Haslemere or Liphook this week. Labour still can’t quite decide who they want in charge, though I’m sure they’ll let us know once they’ve worked it out. Perhaps that’s one for next week’s instalment.

LOCAL HEALTHCARE ALL UNDER ONE ROOF
This morning I hosted a Health Fair at Farnham Leisure Centre, bringing together more than forty
health, social care and wellbeing organisations from across both the Surrey and Hampshire parts of our constituency. The aim was simple: to help local residents understand what support exists in our area and to give providers the chance to connect with each other. The response was fantastic - from first aid teams and fitness providers to groups supporting older residents and mental wellbeing.
What came through clearly is how much people value joined-up care, and how much good work is already happening when organisations talk to one another. I’m grateful to everyone who took part, and I’ll keep working to strengthen the links that help our community stay healthy and supported, and of course look forward to next year’s event!

FEATURED THIS WEEK

Championing the British wine sector
I led a debate this week on how soaring alcohol duty is damaging the UK’s wine and spirits sector. When more than 60% of a bottle’s price is tax, it’s clear the system is broken - and I’m pushing for a fair, competitive framework that protects small producers and our pubs.
Brightwells Gostrey needs a new Treasurer
I dropped into Brightwells Gostrey on Tuesday to see the brilliant work they do supporting older residents. They’re now looking for a Trustee to serve as Treasurer - a great opportunity for someone with financial experience to make a real difference locally.
Talking local priorities in Haslemere
Around fifty residents joined me at St Christopher’s in Haslemere to discuss local priorities and how we can keep the neighbourhood feeling safe and well-supported. It was a constructive conversation, and I’ll keep working with the community and police to make sure concerns are heard and acted on.
Strength to strength at Liphook United FC
I met Mark at Liphook United FC following the recent break-in at their shed, and it was encouraging to see the club’s resilience and determination. Their men’s and women’s teams continue to achieve great results, driven by dedicated volunteers who keep the club at the heart of the community.
Huge crowds at Farnham’s Fireworks
I joined Farnham Roundtable’s torchlit procession and fireworks this year, which once again brought the community together in huge numbers. I judged the effigies before the bonfire, and it was great to see so many families and volunteers making the evening such a standout local event. I had a great time!
REMEMBRANCE ACROSS THE CONSTITUENCY
On Remembrance Sunday, I attended Farnham’s parade and service, taking part in the procession
before heading to Haslemere and Bramshott to lay wreaths to remember those that fought across our area. The weekend brought people together in a calm and reflective way, with veterans, families, local organisations and young people all playing their part. It was a reminder of how important these moments are to the towns and villages that keep these traditions going year after year.
On Tuesday, I joined the Armistice Day service in Whitehill & Bordon. The town’s long military history is still very present, and that was reflected in a well-attended and well-led ceremony. Reverend Wendy Mallas, who has guided the service for fifteen years, delivered her final commemoration with the same steady and thoughtful approach she has always brought.

CASEWORK ROUNDUP
This week has brought a wide range of casework into my postbag. On national issues raised with Ministers, I received updates on driving legislation for newly qualified teenagers, animal welfare concerns, inheritance tax and child benefit. I have also continued to support families with SEND cases involving both Hampshire and Surrey County Councils, where I’m pushing for timely responses.
I held another one of my advice surgeries and spoke with several residents about the challenges they’re facing and how I can assist. Other issues raised with me this week have included concerns about charity fundraisers, policing, immigration and adult social care.
