51st Weekly Newsletter

A week of stark contrasts: the collapse of the Chinese spy trial has exposed alarming weakness at the heart of this Labour Government, while new jobs data shows unemployment climbing to its highest level in four years. Britain cannot afford a government that’s soft on security and careless with the economy; Labour’s indecision abroad and mismanagement at home are leaving our country less safe and less prosperous.

Government must protect our veterans

I asked the Northern Ireland Secretary to clarify whether the Troubles Bill would extend legal protections to paramilitaries. He was unable to confirm that it would not - a concerning lack of clarity on such an important issue.

Celebrating 50 years of Farnham Rugby Club

Farnham Rugby Club’s recent 50th anniversary was a brilliant celebration of local sport at its best. From the pre-match lunch to a hard-fought game against Jersey RFC, it was great to see so many people coming together to mark such a milestone. My thanks to Geoff Robins and everyone involved.

Ensuring humanitarian aid reaches those in need

Following the ceasefire in Gaza, I asked the PM how the UK will ensure humanitarian aid reaches civilians and isn’t exploited by those seeking to cause further instability. He confirmed that work with regional partners, including Egypt, is under way.

BEHIND THE SCENES AT WESTMINSTER

It was a pleasure to welcome another group of local residents to Parliament on the first day back from recess. After a full tour of the Palace of Westminster, we held a private Q&A session in one of the committee rooms, where we discussed a wide range of national and local issues.

These visits are always a highlight of my parliamentary calendar - they’re a great way to meet new people, hear fresh perspectives and give residents a closer look at how Parliament works day to day.

The tours will be restarting after winter, and I’ll be sharing more details nearer the time. Please do keep an eye on social media for news of the next date.

SUPPORTING THE LOBULAR MOONSHOT PROJECT

On Wednesday we marked Global Lobular Breast Cancer Awareness Day - highlighting the urgent need for dedicated research into lobular breast cancer, which affects thousands of women each year but remains one of the least understood forms of the disease.

I am proud to support the Lobular Moon Shot Project, a cross-party campaign backed by more than 400 MPs calling on the Government to fund a five-year national research programme. Founded by the late Dr Susan Michaelis, the project continues her determination to improve diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes for women affected by this disease.

The photo below was taken at a previous meeting with my constituent Alison, who has been a strong advocate for the campaign locally.

CASEWORK ROUNDUP

It’s been another busy week working on casework for constituents - covering everything from visa issues and housing repairs to SEND support, speeding and road safety, broadband connectivity, and passport delays. I’ve also been assisting residents with concerns relating to international affairs, including family and travel matters overseas.
